Forrest is available for writing support, academic mentoring, and test prep. He lives in Brooklyn and is available to meet in person or over Zoom.

With connections to institutions around the country and the world, Forrest has the experience and knowledge to help navigate and support your educational journey, and the expertise to help you hone your writing to its full potential.

  • AP English Literature and AP English Language tests can be valuable assets to your college applications. Forrest has experience teaching both courses and both tests, and has helped many students prepare for these exams outside of their regular school work. All of these students have received a 4 or 5, some without having any further instruction than weekly sessions with Forrest. Forrest is also an experienced SAT tutor and can prepare students for ACTs, SSATs, NY state tests, and other standardized assessments.

  • English, and humanities generally, has never been more important. In a rapidly changing world and economy, the ability to express yourself clearly through writing, to interpret text, and to develop nuanced and evidence-based opinions through active engagement with others are foundational skills. Writing clearly and concisely is valuable no matter what you pursue. Writing and analytical skills are developed through thoughtful support from a teacher or mentor, and many students don’t get enough in the classroom. Forrest can help you find your footing in class, push you beyond the scope of the skills developed in the classroom, and make sure you are prepared for the more rigorous demands of college and beyond.

  • An admissions essay is a delicate balance—it has to be appealing to a complete stranger, reflect your real interests and passions, and speak to your goals and how they can be served at an institution, all while coming across as humble and reflective in a limited word count. Forrest can support you from the brainstorming phase to a fully-edited essay, finding an authentic but polished written voice and developing a compelling story of who you are and what you have to offer. He can also help you choose which programs are the best fits for your goals and hone your approach accordingly. Whether you are applying to college, to a summer program, or even writing a cover letter for a job, Forrest can help you put your best foot forward.

  • Writing is a craft that requires practice and instruction to master, not just in school. In the professional world, tasks as basic as writing emails can determine how you are seen by colleagues, supervisors, and clients. Writing skills can advance your career and boost your productivity. For professionals who want more tools at their disposal, or for offices where improved writing would allow for more effective communication, Forrest can provide individualized lessons or group seminars that tackle common problems or address specific needs.

  • School is not just about academic content. It’s about learning to schedule your own time, to balance tasks with different due dates and priority levels, and to communicate with classmates, teachers, and others in order to make sure you’re as successful as possible. In an increasingly overwhelming and distracting world, those are often the tasks that cause students to fall behind. Forrest can help you develop organization and communication skills that allow your knowledge and abilities to be reflected in your results.

  • Getting into college can be enormously stressful, and every aspect of your application needs to be carefully thought through—and it needs to reflect years of your work and effort. Forrest can help you develop your academic and extracurricular resume, ensure you are advocating for yourself in effective ways, and choose a list of schools where you can achieve your goals and have the best four years of your life.
